James Baring, Director

James Baring is a turnaround professional with over ten years of experience advising and supporting businesses through change and growth. He has advised distressed clients across various industries on mergers and acquisitions, working capital improvement and turnaround plans, cash flow forecasting and management, cost structure analysis, debt structuring and refinancing, asset disposition, creditor communications, and contingency planning related to insolvency matters.

James is an active member of the professional restructuring community where he serves as a Director on the Turnaround Management Association (TMA) Southern California Board of Directors, is chair of the TMA Southern California NextGen Leadership Committee, and a founding member of the Young Professionals leadership committee of the Commercial Finance Conference of California (CFCC). He has received numerous awards, is a published thought leader, and a frequent panel member. James received formal Spanish language training from the University of Grenada in Spain and speaks at a conversational level.

  • Led buy-side working capital due diligence for $70B private equity fund on $200MM automobile parts company identifying opportunities between $3-$10MM across three working capital cycles.
  • Developed $280MM+ working capital improvement plan for $9B office supplies retailer with specific initiatives spanning the Order to Cash and Procure to Pay working capital cycles.
  • Led M&A buy-side cash flow diligence for $300MM professional services target company.
  • Restructuring advisor and interim controller to distressed $200MM debt collection company through out-of-court sales process.
  • Restructuring advisor and interim Financial Planning & Analysis Manager to $100MM greenhouse grower of vegetables through out-of-court refinancing.
  • Restructuring advisor in support of CRO of $50MM publicly held oil and gas exploration and production company through distressed section 363-sale process.
  • Financial advisor to $1.5B Integrated Healthcare System composed of six hospitals across California through an out-of-court sale process.
